Hey Radiant Rebels, I got lots more on the subject coming your way, but now..
A quick little overview of some of the oils I hold near in my arsenal for peri menopausal relief. (listen up if you are 40 plus years old). These combined with good sleep, exercise, stress reduction, nutrition, herbs etc...can be a game changer.
Digest Zen/ The first think I noticed after I turned 40 was that my digestion became wonky. Food intolerances and nutrient deficiencies. Also emotionally I felt overwhelm trying to process and digest life transitions. The simple practice of rolling digest zen over my abdomen followed by a little self massage in the circular direction of the digestive track has brought me some sweet relief. The key ingredients in the blend of peppermint, cardamom and fennel are also useful for relief from hormonal/menstrual issues.
Clary Sage/ Probably the most highly regarded when it comes to all things hormonal; from pms to menopausal symptoms. CS has been shown to be more effective than acetaminophen for menstrual pain. It may have a balancing effect on estrogen (as a phytoestrogen) & on thyroid hormone levels. Research has shown that CS reduces cortisol levels in the body by 36% (up-level your mood!) I like to apply it right over my ovary area.
Ylang Ylang/ Hormonally supportive throughout entire cycle and particularly useful for mood & emotions. When I get out of the shower I do a quick round of dry brushing followed by self massage (feet to neck) with ylang ylang, geranium & clary sage in coconut oil- particularly just before & during my period. It’s a gorgeously sensual oil that induces relaxation and combats low libido (that may or may not be apparent in your midlife marriage...get it girl!)
There are several other specific oils that I use as a self-care ritual throughout my monthly cycle to help mitigate symptoms throughout the follicular & luteal phases (which have become absolutely bananas in my late 40’s). A lot of this practice is awareness of what-in-the-heck is likely going on in our bodies literally from week to week and what it needs to ride that wave.
Will share more in weeks to come for both young lassies and for saucy older broads like me!
